I'm Juandalynn Givan and I'm running for mayor!

I'm running for Mayor of Birmingham because I believe the city needs bold, transformative leadership to tackle its most pressing challenges. Our campaign is centered on creating a safer, more inclusive, and economically vibrant Birmingham. I am dedicated to addressing crime, improving access to affordable housing, strengthening educational opportunities, and fostering a business-friendly environment to bring more jobs to the city. With my extensive experience in law, government, and community advocacy, I am prepared to lead Birmingham toward a future where every resident has the opportunity to thrive.

About State Representative Juandalynn Givan

State Representative Juandalynn Givan proudly serves House District 60 and was re-elected for a third term in the Alabama House of Representatives with a commanding 76.5% win rate. In the 2018 primary election, she achieved the highest percentage of votes among all Democratic candidates in state races and received the most votes of any Democrat in the 2018 General Election.

Rep. Givan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Miles College and her Juris Doctorate from Miles School of Law. She is the founder and owner of Givan & Associates Law Firm and That Girl Inc., where she recently expanded her practice to include governmental relations and program management consulting services. In addition to her professional achievements, she is a mentor, public speaker, and devoted public servant.

Her career in public service began after graduating from Miles College, when she was appointed as an Administrative Cabinet Member under Birmingham’s first African American mayor, Dr. Richard Arrington Jr. In this role, she managed Capital Projects and Development in the City Center. She later served as the HOPE VI Coordinator for the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District, overseeing revitalization projects at Metropolitan Gardens and Tuxedo Court. She has also contributed political commentary and analysis on Birmingham View Television, aired on WABM My/68.

As a practicing attorney and advocate for her community, Rep. Givan is deeply committed to improving the quality of life for all citizens, fighting for civil justice, and advancing equality.

Rep. Givan’s leadership and dedication have earned her numerous accolades, including:

  • NAACP Woman of the Year

  • Margaret Tucker Humanitarian of the Year Award

  • Freshman Legislator of the Year (2010)

  • Legislator of the Year (2014)

  • National Legislator of the Year (2015, National Black Caucus of State Legislators)

  • Legislator of the Year (2017, Alabama Hospitality Association)

  • Social Justice Woman of the Year (SCLC)

She has held leadership roles in various organizations, including:

  • National President, National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL, elected 2021)

  • Executive Committee Member, National Black Caucus of State Legislators

  • Parliamentarian and 2nd Vice-President, NOBEL (2015-2017)

  • Chair of the NAACP 50-Year Civil Rights Commemoration

Additionally, Rep. Givan has served as Honorary Chair for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) inaugural For the Love of Learning Masked Gala and has been recognized by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Omicron Omega Chapter), the Tri-County Chapter of The Links, Inc., and the Museum of Urban Arts.

Above all, Representative Givan is proud to be the daughter of the late Leroy and Patricia Givan, whose values and legacy continue to inspire her work.
