Our Campaign’s Top Priorities

Our campaign is rooted in the belief that Birmingham deserves leadership that listens, acts, and delivers results for everyone. From fostering economic growth and creating jobs to ensuring safe neighborhoods, affordable housing, and access to quality education, we are tackling the issues that matter most to our residents.

Public Safety & Police Reform

Juandalynn Givan envisions a safer Birmingham through community policing and robust accountability measures, including strengthening the civilian oversight board. She will fund violence prevention programs that address systemic issues like poverty and lack of opportunity.

Affordable Housing

Juandalynn Givan is committed to addressing Birmingham’s housing crisis by expanding transitional and permanent housing initiatives with wraparound support services to end homelessness. She will advocate for rent caps, tenant protections, and prioritize the development of affordable housing units for seniors, families, and low-income residents.

Jobs

Juandalynn Givan will create jobs by partnering with local institutions to provide workforce training in high-demand industries. Her administration will expand youth employment programs and generate infrastructure-related jobs through city-funded development projects.

Municipal Court Reform

Juandalynn Givan is committed to reforming Birmingham’s municipal court system to ensure fairness, transparency, and accessibility for all residents. She will work to eliminate predatory fines and fees, expand alternative sentencing programs, and prioritize restorative justice initiatives that address the root causes of crime while reducing recidivism.

Education

Givan’s vision for education includes increased funding for schools, competitive teacher salaries, and better student resources. She will also invest in universal pre-K and repurpose recreation centers as hubs for after-school programs, adult education, and workforce training.

Clean City

Givan will prioritize beautification efforts through citywide cleanups, tree planting, and community garden initiatives. Her administration will improve waste management systems and launch anti-litter campaigns to promote civic pride. Givan's plan is to also clean-up all 23 communities within her first 122 days.

Transportation

Juandalynn Givan will expand and modernize Birmingham’s public transit system by working with MAX to increase their bus routes, improving pedestrian and bike infrastructure, and exploring light rail options to better connect the city and surrounding suburbs.

Affordable Utilities

Givan will fight to lower water and sewer bills, ensuring utilities are affordable and reliable for all Birmingham residents. She will hold the Birmingham Water Works Board accountable for transparency, reforms, and equitable service access, especially for low-income households.

Reproductive Rights

Givan is committed to protecting access to reproductive healthcare and reducing maternal mortality rates among Black women in Birmingham. She will advocate for workplace policies that support parents, including paid parental leave and childcare subsidies.

Strong Economy

Juandalynn Givan will champion economic growth by supporting small businesses with grants and low-interest loans, especially minority-owned enterprises. She plans to attract new industries like tech, healthcare, and green energy while advocating for living wages for workers.

Disability Justice

Juandalynn Givan believes in advancing disability justice by upgrading city infrastructure for accessibility and creating job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Her administration will prioritize inclusive representation and targeted investments in underserved neighborhoods with high disability populations.

City Services

Givan will modernize Birmingham’s government services through digital transformation to ensure efficiency and accessibility. She will foster community engagement through regular town halls and improve emergency preparedness to protect residents during crises.

Juandalynn Givan will fight for cleaner air and water in underserved communities by enforcing stricter regulations on industrial activities. She will expand urban green spaces and develop a comprehensive climate action plan to transition Birmingham toward renewable energy.

Health & Human Services

Givan will partner with healthcare providers to expand access to mobile clinics and mental health support for underserved communities. She also plans to combat food insecurity by promoting urban farming and strengthening food bank programs.

City Budget & Revenue

As mayor, Givan will ensure transparency and accountability by creating a public portal to track city spending. She plans to diversify revenue through innovative solutions like green bonds and public-private partnerships while empowering residents through participatory budgeting.

Short-Term Rentals & Fair Regulations

Juandalynn Givan believes in fostering economic growth and promoting Birmingham as a premier destination for tourists, professionals, and families. Supporting short-term rentals is a key strategy to achieve this while balancing community needs and ensuring fair regulation.
